Meet Taylor Lee: OCD Louisiana Volunteer

Written by Taylor Lee

What made you want to get involved with OCD Louisiana?

I grew up in a corner of Louisiana with very few providers who had extensive experience or training with this tricky disorder, so I have first hand knowledge of the need for increased awareness and access to effective treatment in our area.

I’ve pursued my career as a counselor to do exactly that, and I see my work with OCD Louisiana as an extension of that mission. OCD Louisiana has created a community of individuals affected by OCD and providers that is a light in the darkness for people all across our state who struggle in silence and solitude. The existence of this community sends a powerful message: that folks affected by OCD and related disorders are not alone, and that effective treatments are available. I feel excited to be a part of this endeavor.

What is your background?

I have a decade of experience as an educator here in Louisiana, most recently teaching Gifted AP Psychology at the high school level. I began my transition into the field of counseling in January of 2023 when I enrolled in the University of the Cumberlands. In May, I’ll graduate with my Master’s of Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

What is a fun fact about you?

I’m a bass player who’s been in bands since I was a teenager. Way back in the 2000s, I attended the University of New Orleans as a Jazz Studies major. I still play gigs today, mainly with a jazz trio here in Lake Charles.

Taylor Lee is a counseling intern graduating from the University of the Cumberlands in May. He lives in the Lake Charles area and recently began volunteering with OCD Louisiana.
